Winter flight schedule 2024/25: Three new holiday destinations in the Orient and expansion in Northern Europe
- Salalah (Oman), Giza/Cairo Sphinx (Egypt) and Tunis (Tunisia) new in the Edelweiss route network
- Major expansion to northern destinations with tripling of services to Lapland and doubling of services to Norway
- Twice as many flights to Cape Verde and season extensions from various short and medium-haul destinations
Edelweiss, Switzerland's leading leisure airline, is expanding its offering through the winter. With the 2024/25 winter timetable, Edelweiss is offering 66 destinations in 34 countries. The offer on the African continent and in the Middle East will be expanded with three new, fascinating holiday destinations.
Salalah, located in the south of Oman, is a paradise for holidaymakers looking for relaxation and adventure. Here you can relax on white sandy beaches with turquoise-coloured water or go on an exciting excursion to the Rub al-Khali desert, the largest sand desert in the world. From the end of February 2025, Edelweiss will be flying twice a week from Zurich via Muscat to Salalah and back non-stop from there.
Edelweiss now flies to Sphinx International Airport in Egypt. Located to the west of Cairo and Giza, this airport is the gateway to the world-famous pyramids of Giza. The metropolis of Cairo offers a fascinating contrast with its lively and culturally diverse atmosphere. Sphinx Airport is also the ideal starting point for Nile cruises (in combination with the Edelweiss destination Luxor) and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is scheduled to open this year, is located in the immediate vicinity. From 6 November 2024, Edelweiss will fly twice a week from Zurich to Sphinx International Airport.
The Tunisian capital Tunis fascinates with its rich history and culture. One highlight is the old medina, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see for every visitor. Here you can stroll through the narrow alleyways and explore the traditional souk. You can also embark on wonderful round trips through Tunisia from Tunis. Edelweiss will be flying twice a week from Zurich to Tunis from 19 December 2024.
Major expansion to northern destinations with tripling of services to Lapland and doubling of services to Norway
In response to the growing popularity of winter destinations in Norway and Finland, Edelweiss is significantly increasing its flight frequencies for the coming winter. Tromsø, known as the gateway to the Arctic, will be served up to five times a week. Here, travellers can experience the spectacular Northern Lights and the Arctic adventure in one of the northernmost cities in the world. Evenes Airport near Narvik will also be served in winter for the first time. Narvik offers a fantastic winter programme and will host the Alpine World Ski Championships in 2029. The nearby Lofoten archipelago is a picturesque destination known for its breathtaking fjords and mountains. Evenes will be served once a week from 21 December 2024.
In Finland, a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers awaits travellers in Ivalo, the gateway to Lapland. Ivalo is now served twice a week instead of once. Kittilä, known for its first-class ski resorts and the charming village of Levi, will now be served twice a week. Rovaniemi, the official home of Father Christmas, offers magical winter experiences. Edelweiss will also be flying to this destination twice a week. Finally, Kuusamo, a region known for its unspoilt nature and diverse winter sports opportunities, will be served once a week. The flights to Finland will all begin in December.
Wide range of long-haul holiday destinations
The winter flights to Tampa Bay in Florida, which were introduced last year, will also be offered twice a week this winter. Tampa Bay will therefore be served all year round.
The number of flights to holiday destinations in the Caribbean remains unchanged. As in the previous winter season, Cancún will be served three times a week, Havana once a week and Punta Cana twice a week non-stop from Zurich. Puerto Plata will be served once a week in combination with Montego Bay in Jamaica. San José in Costa Rica is served three times a week, including two flights a week in combination with Liberia/Guanacaste.
In Colombia, Bogotá and Cartagena will be served from 3 November. This will continue to be twice a week.
The holiday destinations of Mauritius, Seychelles and Cape Town remain a firm fixture in Edelweiss' winter flight schedule. The popular metropolis in South Africa will be served up to four times a week throughout the winter. The Maldives will be served three times a week from Zurich, including one flight a week in connection with Colombo in Sri Lanka. Phuket in Thailand will be served three times a week.
Twice as many flights to Cape Verde and season extensions from various short and medium-haul destinations
Flights to Sal on the Cape Verde Islands are being doubled. There will now be four to five flights a week, including attractive weekend flights, which will significantly improve accessibility to this dream destination. Capacity for flights to Morocco will also be increased. Agadir will now be served almost continuously with non-stop flights on Saturdays.
Some classic summer destinations are also being extended: After Djerba, Bilbao, Ibiza, Antalya and Cagliari, the season will be extended into November/December or the start of the season will be brought forward to February/March. Split and Faro will even be served all year round for the first time.
A complete overview of destinations and frequencies with a comparison to the previous year can be found in the appendix to this media release. Flights can be booked immediately at flyedelweiss.com and via all the usual sales channels.
