Edelweiss removes financial obstacles to pilot training
- From June 2025, Edelweiss will cover the financial contribution for pilot training as a loan for Swiss nationals
- The financial contribution for EU/EFTA citizens will be significantly reduced
- Repayment of the loan will be made in instalments through salary deductions after employment
Becoming an airline pilot is a lifelong dream for many young people. However, until now, the high initial training costs have often stood in the way of realising this dream. The financial burden has been a major hurdle for many potential applicants and their families.
From June 2025, Edelweiss will support all students with the same loan amount of CHF 80,000. This means that Swiss citizens will start their pilot training with no personal contribution. The total training costs will be covered by the loan from Edelweiss and the federal subsidies. EU/EFTA citizens will have to cover a personal share of CHF 24,000 at the start of their training, as they receive lower state subsidies than Swiss citizens.
The loan granted will be repaid by the graduates to Edelweiss in instalments and with a minimum interest rate after completion of the training and successful employment in the Edelweiss cockpit. It is always possible to make faster repayments.
This measure is a strong sign of the importance attached to promoting young talent in the cockpit and will cover Edelweiss' increased pilot requirements in the coming years.
