A holiday destination to discover

Cape Town is synonymous not only with a rich flora and fauna, but also an abundant choice of things to see and do. Hardly any other city in the world offers such a perfect blend of fun, excitement and adventure. Not only connoisseurs of South African wine, but also sports enthusiasts such as golfers, mountain bikers, racing cyclists and surfers will certainly not be bored here.

Table Mountain, the city’s landmark, peaks at 3562 feet (1086 m) and affords spectacular panoramic views of the city with its lovely beaches and green spaces. It is the starting point of numerous hiking trails and can be reached by cable car. It is not uncommon to encounter animals, such as antelopes, African penguins, chacma baboons and large marine mammals, even near the city centre. South Africa also boasts eighteen national parks making it a top safari destination. Not only animals but also the beautiful landscape of South Africa can be admired at the Cape of Good Hope and on the Garden Route. For the latter it is best to plan a few days.

Edelweiss tips for Cape Town

To visit the famous penguins, I recommend everyone to take a day trip to Bettys Bay. The route follows a part of the breathtaking Garden Route. A great alternative to the somewhat crowded Boulders Beach.

South African wines enjoy an excellent reputation. A visit to the Steenberg Vineyards is, thus, a must. A connoisseur tour through the historic vineyards around Cape Town are strongly recommended. Stellenbosch or Franschhoek are very popular, for instance. View in maps
A walk through Bo-Kaap is a “must-do”. The colourful facades of what was formerly known as the Malay Quarter dazzle in hues ranging from bright green to stark purple. View in maps
On the beach of Camp's Bay you will get a unique view of the twelve apostles. The promenade along the white sandy beach is lined with restaurants, terrace cafés and chic bars, which invite you to enjoy. View in maps
Always worth a day trip: Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Some daring chacma baboons like it here too. With myriad views of the picturesque coast to admire (on the Chapman's Peak Drive, for instance), the route is the opposite of boring. View in maps
