The city of the midnight sun and Northern Lights
Tromsø, Norway’s northernmost city, is widely referred to as the gateway to the Arctic. Located near the North Cape, it is an ideal starting point for Scandinavian adventures – in summer and in winter. The chance to see the famous Northern Lights is greater here than anywhere else in the world. From late November until late January, the sun never rises. This is when the dazzlingly beautiful Northern Lights dance in the polar night.
Among the highlights in Tromsøs are the Arctic Ocean Cathedral, the Polar Museum and a ride on the cable car Fjellheisen on the Storsteinen. For all adventurous people, a sled dog ride should be at the top of your "bucket list" - an adrenaline kick is guaranteed. Those eager to travel further afield can board a “Hurtigruten” ship in the port of Tromsø. This traditional Norwegian postal ship line connects the towns along the country’s western coast that stretches for almost 1700 miles.
