How to book a flight for your child

If you are flying together with your child/children (2 to 11 years old), you can book their flight directly on flyedelweiss.com or through your travel agent. However, if the number of infants (up to 2 years of age) exceeds the number of accompanying adults, or if your child turns 2 between the outbound and return flight, you must book by telephone with our Service Center at +41 848 333 593.

If your child is travelling alone, different regulations apply. Further information on the UM Service can be found at the link below.

A separate seat for your child

Children between the ages of 2 and 11 travel in their own seat. They are automatically entitled to a seat when the flight is booked.

Infants/babies (0 to 2 years old) are not entitled to their own seat. A special seatbelt is provided to secure the infant on the lap of an adult during the flight. If you prefer to have a separate seat for your baby, this is possible. To do so, please contact our Service Center at +41 (0)848 333 593 or contact your travel agent. Once you have booked a seat at the child fare, your infant can travel in a certified car seat that you provide. Your baby will then sit in their own seat not only during the flight, but also during take-off and landing.

Reserve a baby basket

Baby baskets are available for infants in all flight classes on long-haul flights, but only in Business Class for European flights. Please reserve these well in advance as quantities are limited.

Useful information about the baby basket:

Yes, the baby basket is for infants up to 8 months old, with a maximum weight of 11 kg, and a maximum height of 70 cm.

An adult travelling with an infant with a baby basket reservation, as well as all accompanying children (up to 11 years old), receive a complimentary seat reservation.

At least 4 days before departure.   Please book early as the number of baby baskets is limited. If two or more adults are travelling with the baby with a baby basket reservation, the seat reservation is only free for one adult. For all other guests (which in this case includes other adults and children)  normal seat reservation fees apply.

Guests who have made their booking on flyedelweiss.com should contact the Service Center at +41 (0)848 333 593 or by using our contact form at least 4 days before departure. For all other guests, please contact your travel agent.

We have extra snuggly blankets available for the baby baskets and there are changing tables in the toilets.

Child car seats, restraint systems and convertible beds on board

If you've booked a seat for your baby or child and have a certified child car seat, a restraint system or a convertible bed approved for the aircraft, please bring these with you. Please be sure to comply the following requirements:

Check the label on the car seat or restraint system (e.g. TÜV certification “For use in aircrafts”). Travel accessories certified by authority are approved for use on board with us.

Edelweiss follows the EASA recommendations, which are summarised in the following brochure.

EASA Flying with children

If you have booked your child's own seat on an Edelweiss-operated flight, you can take a convertible bed or seat extension on board to convert your child's seat into a bed.

To use this option, the following requirements must be met:

  • Convertible beds must be stowed securely in the carry-on baggage compartment or under the seat in front during take-off, landing and taxiing on the tarmac.
  • These beds may only be placed in a window seat or in the centre of the middle row.
  • It must be possible to fasten the seat belt at all times.
  • The comfort of other passengers must not be impaired.
  • The use of the beds must not damage the seat or the aircraft inventory.
  • Edelweiss accepts no liability for the use of such beds.

Please note that the car seat or restraint system must be able to fit on the aircraft seat (43x43cm), must be fastened with the lap belt, and does not hinder the seat functionality of fellow passengers. Our cabin crew will be happy to help you install everything properly. Please make sure that your child is properly strapped into their seat. For safety reasons, no car seats or restraint systems are permitted on the A340 aircraft in Business Class.

Here is an example of an approved restraint system:
