Edelweiss presents the travel trends
- The most popular Edelweiss vacation destinations in 2024 were the Canary Islands, Greece and the Balearic Islands as well as the USA, Canada and Tanzania
- Great popularity of the Azores, Islands and Cape Verde
- High demand for vacations in Northern Europe and a combination of culture and beach vacations
From Thursday, 30 January to Sunday, 2 February 2025, Edelweiss invites guests to discover its current 97 vacation destinations in 37 countries at the FESPO & Golfmesse at Messe Zürich. To kick off the vacation fair, Edelweiss provided exciting insights into the most popular vacation destinations in 2024 and revealed which trips will be in high demand in 2025.
Swiss nationals were mainly drawn to islands in 2024
In 2024, the Canary Islands, Greece and the Balearic Islands were very popular short and medium-haul destinations. The USA, Canada and Tanzania were particularly popular long-haul destinations. Rising stars such as Iceland, the Azores and Cape Verde also delivered surprises and proved that Swiss travelers like to discover destinations with unique nature experiences. Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer at Edelweiss, emphasized: «The Azores particularly surprised us in 2024. Due to the great demand, we have expanded our offer for 2025 and will be adding Terceira, another island in the Azores, to our route network in June.»
Swiss people like to travel to the north in 2025
For 2025, two major trends are emerging in the booking behavior of vacation guests: The increasing popularity of Northern Europe and the interest in combination trips to warm destinations. «We are seeing that cities such as Bergen, Cork and Edinburgh and regions such as northern Norway, Lapland and Cornwall are attracting more and more travelers,» says Patrick Heymann. At the same time, vacation destinations that make it possible to combine relaxation on the beach with cultural discoveries or spectacular nature, for example with round trips within a country, are in demand. «Examples of popular combination holiday destinations are Egypt with Luxor and our new destination Giza/Cairo Sphinx, Tanzania with Zanzibar and Oman, which we are also serving with two destinations, Muscat and Salalah, from this month,» says Patrick Heymann.
Vacation variety at the highest level
In 2025, Edelweiss celebrates its 30th anniversary. In addition to Terceira in the Azores and Salalah in Oman, other vacation destinations will be added to the Edelweiss portfolio for the anniversary year: Halifax (Canada), Seattle (USA), Bristol (UK), Zadar (Croatia), Calvi (Corsica) and Tbilisi (Georgia). «Our guests are looking for adventures in nature, cultural discoveries and relaxation on the beach - we are constantly expanding our flight offering to continue to provide our guests with these unforgettable vacation experiences,» says Patrick Heymann. To further improve travel options for Edelweiss guests, six state-of-the-art Airbus A350s will also be added to the long-haul fleet by mid-2027.
