Edelweiss recommendation

Seville, the capital of Andalusia in southern Spain, is a top destination not only for soccer players, but also for golf enthusiasts. Besides the royal golf courses, the Seville area offers a wide range of golfing opportunities to suit every handicap. As an added bonus, golfers can enjoy exquisite Spanish food and fine local wines in the various club houses. Tee times for the Real Club Pineda de Sevilla and the Real Club Sevilla are best booked in advance.

Golf history

The Open de Andalucía golf tournament was founded in 2007 as the result of a rescheduling of the PGA tour calendar: the Players Championship was moved from March to May and the British Masters from May to September. This made room for a new tournament in March, i.e. the Open de Andalucía. In 2009, when the tournament was played on the Real Club Sevilla course, European Ryder Cup veteran Colin Montgomerie became the eighteenth player to reach the 500 appearance mark on the European Tour. He started the tournament impressively with five under par 67, but finished after four rounds at level-par, fourteen strokes behind the winner.

Real Club Pineda de Sevilla

The Royal Club of Pineda de Sevilla is a real insider tip. Considered one of the best in Europe, this true golf course gem was designed by former European Tour winner Jose Maria Olazabal in 1991. Despite the flat terrain, Olazabal successfully created a varied and challenging course. The facility extends to almost 200 acres and features several hills at the tee and beyond the fairways, four lakes, bunkers and some 3000 trees.

Real Club de Sevilla Golf Course

Opened in 1991, this golfing jewel was designed by José María Olazábal who, despite the fairly flat terrain, successfully created a multifaceted and challenging golf course. Players can look forward to fairways flanked by palm groves and large, extremely fast greens with deep set bunkers. In addition, the 150-acre golf facility is home to four lakes and 3000 trees. Hole 17 is the signature hole with island green ad a carry of minimum 98 yards (90 m) from gold tees. The par 72 course extends to 6765 yards (6186 m). A golf cart is an advantage.
