CO2 calculator for flights

Through the cooperation between myclimate and the Lufthansa Group, a proprietary algorithm was developed that calculates the resulting CO2 emissions for each flight route from gate to gate. The calculation takes into account the flight route as well as the service class of the flying guest. The basis for this algorithm is an evaluation of more than 43,000 flights within the Lufthansa Group. The resulting algorithm is updated regularly in order to always guarantee the most accurate calculations possible. In contrast to myclimate, only CO2 emissions are currently taken into account in our calculator, since there are no conclusive scientific findings regarding the influence of other flight emissions on the climate. Therefore, the calculators of the Lufthansa Group and on mylimate.org show different values. All calculated prices and kilogram figures have been verified by myclimate.

Converting kerosene consumption into CO2 emissions

For the calculation of CO2 emissions, the paraffin consumption of a flight route from gate to gate is measured in tonnes as a basis. We then apply a factor of 3.15 to convert this to CO2 emissions. In this way, one tonne of paraffin produces 3.15 tonnes of CO2 when burnt.

myclimate is a non-profit organisation and is therefore exempt from taxes in Switzerland and Germany. You can therefore deduct your CO2 offset to myclimate from your taxes - provided you are liable to pay taxes in Switzerland or Germany.

Cancelling your flight or changing your booking

Unfortunately, no refunds can be made in the event of a flight rebooking or cancellation. Should the flight be cancelled due to third party intervention on the part of Edelweiss, the amount will be refunded.
