  • First flight to Giza/Cairo Sphinx took place on Wednesday, 18 December 2024
  • Two flights a week from Zurich until the beginning of May
  • Celebrations in Zurich and Cairo

Edelweiss celebrated the first flight to Giza/Cairo Sphinx in Egypt with a festive ceremony yesterday, Wednesday. The traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at Zurich Airport, where Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer at Edelweiss, and Rolf Hancock, Vice President Aviation Development at Zurich Airport, cut the ribbon together with the crew.

After arriving at Giza/Cairo Sphinx Airport, the passengers were greeted by a large delegation from the airport. The official opening of the new flight connection between Zurich and Giza/Cairo Sphinx was also part of the welcoming ceremony. In addition to Airport Manager Aymen Sherif, Mohamed Salama, Head of International Tourism Sector, Ministry of Tourism Egypt, and Peter Hafner, Counselor, Head of Economics, Science and Culture at the Embassy of Switzerland in Egypt, the management of the ground handler IAB was also present at the official ceremony. After various speeches, a specially baked cake was cut in the presence of Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer at Edelweiss, Philip Kobel from Edelweiss Station Management and the crew.

The new Sphinx International Airport is located to the west of Cairo and Giza and is the gateway to the world-famous pyramids of Giza. The metropolis of Cairo offers a fascinating contrast with its lively and culturally diverse atmosphere. In addition, Sphinx International Airport is the ideal starting point for Nile cruises (in combination with the Edelweiss destination Luxor).

Edelweiss flies from Zurich to Giza/Cairo Sphinx every Wednesday and Saturday until the beginning of May.
