Action or relaxation – the perfect holiday on Lanzarote’s beaches

Golden yellow sand on Playa de Papagayo
Located in the south of the island, Playa de Papagayo is one of the most beautiful beaches in Lanzarote, known for its clear waters and fine golden sand. The bay is surrounded by rock formations that provide a natural wind protection. With its small waves, the bay is ideal for swimming and snorkelling amidst exciting underwater worlds. The beach is part of a nature reserve, which is also why it’s very clean and well maintained. A small kiosk on the top of the cliff offers snacks and drinks so you can spend the whole day relaxing on the beach.
Relax on Lanzarote’s quietest beach: Playa Mujeres
Playa Mujeres is a tranquil, sprawling beach in the south of Lanzarote. The bright sand and turquoise waters offer a great alternative to the hotel pool. You can relax in the sun here, swim a little and find relaxation – the beach is usually only sparsely occupied. It has no large hotel facilities, party streets or pedestrian zones nearby, which adds to the natural charm of the beach. A beachside picnic is a wonderful way to enjoy the day with the constant gentle splashing of the waves.
Hikes and boat tours on Playa del Risco
Playa del Risco is a remote beach on the northwest coast of Lanzarote. The beach is accessible via a one-hour hike climbing approximately 400 metres in altitude above the Camino de los Gracioseros or by boat. The beach is surrounded by tall cliffs and the local conditions make it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Since the beach is less accessible, you won’t encounter many people here, creating a calm and undisturbed atmosphere. The perfect place to reflect, dream or observe the Chinijo Archipelago.
Water sports at Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is a popular resort in the south of Lanzarote with a very long, white sandy beach. The promenade along the beach is lined with restaurants, bars and shops, ideal for strolling, shopping and a break for a drink or two. The calm, clear water is perfect for swimming, jet-skiing or parasailing. Playa Blanca is regarded above all as one of Lanzarote’s absolute top beaches, especially for water sports enthusiasts. Families, on the other hand, appreciate the shallow shore area as it’s ideal for children. Overall, it’s a pleasant place where you can choose your preferred mix of relaxation and entertainment.
Lanzarote’s black sand: Playa del Janubio
Located on the west coast of Lanzarote, Playa del Janubio is distinguished by its black lava sand and nearby salt pans. The easily accessible beach is rougher and wilder than others on the island, while the waves are often strong, so the beach is used by experienced surfers to ride the waves. A walk along the salt pans offers insights into salt extraction and some fascinating photo opportunities. During the winter months, migratory birds can be seen here, including whimbrels, little egrets and black-winged stilts.
Family beach holiday at Playa de la Garita
Located in northeastern Lanzarote, Playa de la Garita is a family-friendly beach almost one kilometre long with golden sand and calm water. The beach is equipped with public showers, toilets and a playground for children. A nearby restaurant offers local Spanish specialities and fresh seafood straight from the sea. The gentle waves on the beach are ideal for swimming and offer the best conditions for novice surfers, making it the perfect place for a relaxing day with the family.
Playa Chica: a top beach for divers
Located in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Chica is a small, very popular beach in Lanzarote. The clear waters and teeming underwater world have made it a hotspot for divers. There are several diving schools nearby that offer courses for both beginners and advanced students. Here you can discover eels, octopus and crustaceans among the rocky reefs. Diving at night is especially popular, as the entire reef is illuminated in warm colours. For landlubbers, the beach is equipped with loungers, umbrellas and a beach bar. Playa Chica is ideal for those who want to actively experience the sea, but also for those who just want to relax.
Extremely versatile: Playa de los Charcos
The 400-metre Playa de los Charcos is surrounded by two stone walls and is located in southeastern Lanzarote on the north side of Costa Teguise. The beach boasts a stable wind in the outer area, an attractive swimming area near the shore and dreamy white sand. The location attracts stand-up paddlers and is also popular as a setting for windsurfing competitions. Umbrellas, lounge chairs, hammocks and surf accessories are available for hire. The beach is framed by two hotels – on one side the Gran Meliá Salinas, and on the other the Lanzarote Sands Beach, which is particularly attractive for families.
