In the heart of the city: Cambridge Suites Hotel

The Cambridge Suites Hotel is so centrally located that almost all the major sights of the beautiful coastal city are within walking distance. First and foremost is Citadel Hill, Halifax's most impressive historical site, directly opposite the hotel. As the name suggests, the hotel only offers suites, each with one or two spacious rooms, all with panoramic windows. For those who want an even better view over Halifax: the roof terrace is open from five in the morning until eleven at night, with a view of the harbour on one side and the city on the other. Breakfast and WLAN are included in the overnight price of the Cambridge Suites Hotel.

The legend: The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites

Over 90 years old, but still elegant and charming: the Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites. Thanks to its wood-panelled lobby with chandeliers and classic furnishings, tradition-conscious guests in particular will love it. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy fine cuisine in the hotel restaurant The Arms, although the dining area is somewhat reminiscent of a typical English pub. Afterwards, it's best to sink into one of the sofas above the hotel lobby and listen to the sounds of the piano player. Or you can take another stroll in the park directly in front of the stylishly renovated four-star hotel.

Bright Design: The Muir/Autograph Collection

The Muir is part of the Autograph Collection, a collection of independent hotels in the upscale to luxury category in the Marriott portfolio. But even within this first-class group, the five-star Muir stands out. It is located in the new Queen's Marque district of Halifax and offers direct access to the sea. Its minimalist, elegant interior made from natural materials is particularly impressive: marble, oak wood, wool and linen form a wonderful synthesis here. Nothing superfluous detracts from the pure luxury of the 109 rooms and suites. Even the fitness rooms and spa area follow the uncluttered design principle. The only ‘jewellery’ on the walls are original paintings, including many by artists from the region.

Cosy: Hotel Halifax

The Hotel Halifax is also located by the sea, overlooking Halifax harbour and Historic Downtown. Although the three-star accommodation is simpler than the nearby Hotel Muir, it is also cheaper. Guests who do not expect great luxury but still want to stay in comfort are in good hands at the Hotel Halifax. The hotel is praised by guests for its cosy beds in particular, but also for its wellness area with indoor pool and surprisingly well-equipped fitness room. Last but not least: Excellent regional craft beers and wines are served at the hotel bar.

Casual: Moxy Halifax Downtown

At the Moxy Halifax Downtown, you are immediately on first-name terms. The four-star hotel is new to the city and primarily appeals to a younger and hipper clientele. Check-in does not take place at a reception desk (too old-fashioned), but with the first (free) drink at the hotel bar. The rooms are colourful and equipped with walk-in showers, smart technology, fast and free Wi-Fi and TVs that run all the usual streaming services as a matter of course. An interactive lounge and a library are popular meeting places for guests at the Moxy Halifax Downtown. Who knows, maybe they'll later head out together to enjoy Halifax's nightlife, which is just a stone's throw from the hotel.

Pure romance: Blue Forest Lane Bed and Breakfast

Welcome to Blue Forest Lane Bed and Breakfast! If you manage to get one of just three double rooms here, all with a bathroom including a whirlpool or bathtub, you're in luck. The romantic mini-hotel is located just 20 minutes from downtown Halifax. But the house in typical Nova Scotia style, surrounded by an enchanting garden with mature trees and a variety of evergreen plants, looks like a rural idyll. Here you can enjoy peace and quiet - with good connections to Halifax if you are in the mood for sightseeing and action. For breakfast, guests at Blue Forest Lane are spoilt with omelettes, waffles, crêpes, scrambled eggs and fresh croissants.

Friendly newcomer: Sandman Signature Dartmouth Hotel & Suites

The three-star Sandman Signature Dartmouth Hotel & Suites has only been open since 2023. It is located just outside Halifax city centre in the Dartmouth district. The communal rooms of the hotel can be described as modern and a little playful. The light-flooded entrance hall and reception are huge, right next door there are seating areas with portraits of historical personalities hanging on the walls, their faces full of thick splashes of colour. The 212 rooms of this ambitious newcomer are very airy and bright thanks to their large windows, and the furnishings are kept in subtle colours. Sports fans and families will find a fitness centre and an indoor pool with a large slide at the hotel.
