Edelweiss is proud to connect Switzerland with Las Vegas and Havana. Switzerland’s leading leisure airline now flies to the world-famous entertainment capital in the US on Mondays and Fridays and to the largest city in the Caribbean on Thursdays. Last week saw the inauguration of flights to these exciting new travel destinations. On Monday, 5 May, the passengers on the first Edelweiss flight to Las Vegas were welcomed at check-in by showgirls. The departure gate was transformed into a casino with Black Jack and Roulette tables, whilst an Elvis Presley impersonator created the perfect atmosphere before departure. What is more, throughout the day, passers-by in Zurich Airport were given the chance to experience a touch of Las Vegas and try their luck at one of the slot machines set up in the airport. On Thursday, 8 May, the first flight to Havana was celebrated with hot rhythms. Several dancing couples performed passionate dances to the music of the Cuban band “Son Alarde”, enticing passengers to join in.

New destination is an insider’s tip

The new Edelweiss destinations Las Vegas and Havana score with a wide and manifold choice of things to do and enjoy. ”We now operate flights to Las Vegas because it is something our customers really want,“ says Edelweiss CEO Karl Kistler. ”Judging by the current seat occupancy rate, we have truly hit the nail on the head.” Zurich is but the third European city after London and Paris to operate all year round direct outbound and return flights to Las Vegas. Perceived primarily as an entertainment hub, the desert city of Las Vegas is also an ideal starting point for trips to the western part of the US and can be combined with the SWISS destinations Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“Havana, on the other hand, is an insider’s tip,“ Karl Kistler explains, “tourism is on the upswing and increasingly more diversified. Especially travel around Cuba is growing in popularity and can be done individually.” With its Old Town and striking contrast between culture and modernity, Havana is a place waiting to be explored. What is more, the popular beach resorts in the Varadero area are situated within easy reach of this pulsating Caribbean metropolis.

New infrastructure to offer the best service

Edelweiss’s long-haul aircraft are being refurbished and the aircraft cabins thus significantly improved. The new Business Class will feature lie-flat seats and an in-flight entertainment system with sixteen-inch screens. Edelweiss will also be introducing the new service class “Economy Max“ that provides flight passengers with fifteen centimetres more legroom as well as many other amenities to ensure a comfortable flight. Edelweiss’s Economy Class will also be upgraded to include new seats and a new in-flight entertainment system with touchscreens. The aim is to offer the best possible service to all flight passengers. “We look forward to pampering our passengers in the new aircraft cabins starting in mid-June,“ says Karl Kistler.
