Getting there
The Oberal Pass is easily reached from Andermatt by the Matterhorn-Gotthard railway. After a spectacular 20-minute train ride through the Urschen mountains, you arrive at the top of the pass at 2044 metres above sea level. The journey by car from Andermatt takes just under a quarter of an hour - parking spaces are available on the Oberalp Pass.
Experience
The Oberalp Pass is the link between Graubünden and Uri. The highest point of the pass road is at 2,044 m above sea level. The natural reservoir on the pass is an inviting place for picnics, fishing and walks. Many great hiking trails and bike tours also start from the Oberalp Pass summit. The hike to the mystical Tomasee, the source of the Rhine, is highly recommended. Lake Toma is surrounded by rare alpine plants and is uniquely beautiful between high rock faces.
Walk to the Edelweiss bench
The Edelweiss-Bänkli stands next to the highest lighthouse in the world, directly at the top of the Oberalp Pass. From the train station, the Bänkli and the lighthouse can be reached in five minutes on foot. For the more ambitious, there are countless hiking trails from Andermatt and Sedrun that lead over hill and dale to the Edelweiss-Bänkli.
Best view
If you take the gondola to the Schneehüenerstock on the Oberalp Pass, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Ursern Valley and the Surselva. On the large sun terrace of the panorama restaurant at the mountain station, you can marvel at the surrounding mountain peaks while enjoying a coffee.
Tip
The Maighels and Badus huts, both huts of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), are located near the Oberalp Pass. They offer simple overnight accommodation, are base camps for mountain and climbing tours and ideal places for a break. With regional dishes, fresh cakes and drinks, there is an enjoyable addition to the great view here.

At the source of enjoyment: the Calmot mountain inn on the Oberalp Pass with its large sun terrace and regional dishes invites you to linger. The Ustria Alpsu restaurant also guarantees courteous service and a cosy atmosphere for hours of enjoyment on the Oberalp Pass.
