Getting there
The valley station at Unterwasser can be reached in an hour from Zurich and St. Gallen. The funicular takes you up to the Iltios, and from mid-July the legendary cable car offers daily transport to the Chäserugg.
Experience
The Rosenbaden is a sweeping mountain plateau at 2,262 metres above sea level. Visitors can not only admire the unique alpine flora, but also find out about its importance in mythology and in medical treatments.
Walk to the Edelweiss bench
The Edelweiss bench is an easy 20-minute walk along a good footpath on the Flower Trail from the mountain station at Chäserrugg.
Best view
The bench offers breathtaking views to the south over the Walensee and the surrounding rock faces of the Churfirsten mountains.
Tip
Two summits for the price of one: the summit of Hinterrugg, the highest of the seven Churfirsten, is a ridge walk and a 15-minute climb from the Chäserugg mountain station.

The mountain station on the Chäserugg was designed by the world-famous architects Herzog & de Meuron and is a really spectacular sight. The refined, fresh alpine cuisine is surpassed only by the panoramic views over six countries.

Culinary treats at lofty heights
The newly designed summit station is a treat for the eye and the palate. Architects Herzog & de Meuron reconciled traditional elements with functionality and aesthetics. One need not fear kitschy “alpine chic“ here. When it comes to food, the restaurant’s cuisine is appropriately traditional: inspired by local specialities, the dishes served are of the highest quality.
Effortless ascent to the summit
The architect duo Herzog & de Meuron also designed the three stations of the Stöfeli cable car (the valley station, the intermediate station and the summit station) which opened in the 2015/16 winter season. Besides blending flawlessly with nature, the stations enable visitors to reach the summit in comfort and without tarnishing their hiking boots. The new ten-seater gondolas reduce the burden on the legendary aerial cableway by providing a second route to the Chäserrugg – so that visitors can continue to enjoy a relaxing Chäserrugg experience.
Rosenboden and Blumenweg
Situated at 2262 metres above sea level, the lovely Rosenboden high plateau is a delightful place to take a stroll and easy to walk on. It enchants with scenic views of the Alpine massif, the Alpine arc and Lake Walensee. The Blumenweg (flower trail) around the Rosenboden details the medicinal benefits of alpine flowers and the mythology behind these rare beauties.
Winter pleasure
And last but not least: the Chäserrugg is a great place for winter sports enthusiasts. Inviting ski slopes set in intact nature run alongside alpine meadows and forests. The eastern ski run stretches for almost 3.5 miles (5.4 km) offering extensive skiing pleasure. Those who prefer sledging will love the traditional sledge run which starts at the Iltios middle station and ends down in the valley at Unterwasser. Fringed by meadows and farms, the sledge run is more than two miles long (3.4 km) and promises great fun for people of all ages!
